Alice L. Riedel, age 89 of 1264 County Highway 16, Sycamore, Ohio died at 2:03 P.M., Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at home. She was born on June 28, 1931 in Peace River, Alberta Canada to Mathew and Dorothea (Ross) Romanko. She married Arnold Riedel on January 21, 1953 and he died March 21, 2020.
Surviving are the following children, Galen L. Riedel, rural Sycamore, Ohio and Cynthia Riedel, rural Sycamore, Ohio. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Nicholas (Cindy) Riedel, Seth (Jenny) Riedel and Rachel Riedel plus three great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Lyssa Riedel, brother, Lorne (Betty) Romanko and a sister, Elle (Lee) Hess, Henderson, Nevada. Alice was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Riedel on July 5, 2014, three sisters, Renee Keller, Ruth Gier and Carolyn Stefanelli plus a daughter-in-law, Deb Wood.
Alice attended grade school in Clear Hills, Alberta Canada at the Hasell School (Grade 1-8). When Alice was sixteen years old the family moved to Ohio where she attended Willard High School graduating with the class of 1948. She then went to school to be a x-ray technician working at Tiffin Mercy Hospital and Wyandot Memorial Hospital. She then started doing night classes in 1961 for five years graduating from Bowling Green State University in 1966 with a degree in elementary education and taught at the Sycamore Elementary School (grade K-2) during her career of teaching for twenty-seven years.
For hobbies, Alice loved to work in her garden, do oil paintings, loved quilting, mushroom hunting and collecting rocks. Alice and Arnold traveled to all forty-nine states and all the providences of Canada during their lifetime. They also wintered in Quartsite, Arizona for ten years.
Alice donated her body to the Ohio State University College of Medicine for anatomical research.
A combined memorial service for Alice and Arnold Riedel will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at the Sycamore United Methodist Church with the Rev. Amy Vittorio officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 P.M. Saturday at the church prior to the memorial service.
