Betty J. Messersmith

Betty J. Messersmith, age 81 of Tiffin, OH died at 3:40pm Thursday, August 18, 2022, at home. She was born on October 9, 1940, in Tiffin, OH to Paul and Ethel (St. Clair) Webb. She married Kenneth G. Messersmith on August 30, 1958, and he survives in Tiffin.

Surviving are the following children: Rusty Messersmith, McCutchenville, OH, Randy Messersmith, McCutchenville, OH, Beth (David) Wertz, rural Sycamore, OH, and Lisa (Todd) Messersmith, McCutchenville, OH. Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, two sisters, Cora Orr, rural McCutchenville, OH and Clara Ray, Lexington, Kentucky, and one brother, Don Webb, Tiffin, OH, also stepbrother Raymond (Della) Myers, Carey, OH and two stepsisters, Martha (Gary Perry) Stansberry, Tiffin, OH and Mary (Alan) Beam, Tiffin, OH. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law Susan Messersmith, one granddaughter, one great-grandson, one stepbrother, and on stepsister.

She retired from the former Westinghouse and AO Smith, Upper Sandusky, after working 25 years, then was a bartender at the Sycamore American Legion for eight years. She was a former member of the Sycamore American Legion.

For hobbies, she loved to take gambling trips and played bingo for many years in Sycamore on Friday nights. She helped her husband at flea markets, loved to play euchre, and go camping. She loved all the holidays, especially Christmas Eve when she would have the whole family every year, but most of all she just loved spending time with her kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

A funeral service for Betty will be held at 11:00am Wednesday August 24, 2022, at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, OH with the Rev. Amy Vittorio officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery, McCutchenville, OH. Visitation will be held on Tuesday August 23, 2022, from 5-8pm at the funeral home.
