Craig Riedel Obituary

Craig A. Riedel, age 89 of 9140 Township Highway 136, Nevada, Ohio died at 4:19 A.M., Friday, November 10, 2023 at Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky, Ohio. He was born in Sycamore, Ohio to Stanley H. and Helen (Walton) Riedel on December 25, 1933. He married Bonnie (Miller) Riedel and they later divorced. He then married Patricia (Rothlisberger) Riedel on December 27, 1986 and she survives in rural Nevada, Ohio.

Surviving are the following children: Dennis Riedel, Wilder, Kentucky, Brenda Hetzel, Oldsmar, Florida and Annette (Dan) Hollis, Gallatin, Tennessee. Also surviving are three stepchildren: Julie (Mike) Keller, Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Jill (Mike) Thiel, Upper Sandusky, Ohio and Jenni (Roger) Jury ll, rural Upper Sandusky, Ohio, plus ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Craig also has a brother, Tobe (Cindy) Riedel, Westerville, Ohio and two sisters, Carolyn (Dave) Sigler, rural Sycamore, Ohio and Cleone (Pete) Hummel, rural Sycamore, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Claude Riedel, besides his parents. 

Craig was a member of the Union Salem Family Church. Growing up Craig attended the Sycamore United Methodist Church, he was a 1951 graduate of Sycamore High School where he was the last living classmate, a 1966 graduate of The Ohio State University, and a 1971 graduate of Bowling Green State University where he received his master’s degree. Craig for twenty years was a teacher and principal in the Mohawk School System. He later in life worked at Timken, Bucyrus, Ohio, and for ICP in Tiffin, Ohio.  In the summertime he painted for George Fadley Painting in Sycamore and Parker Brothers Painting in McCutchenville, Ohio.

Craig was a 65-year member of Enterprise Lodge # 579 F & A.M., Sycamore, where he served as master of the lodge in 1962 and 2012. He also was the District Education Officer in 2001 and District Deputy Grand Master in 2004. 

For a hobby, Craig loved to raise harness racing horses and attended all the harness racing events he could. He never missed the Little Brown Jug in Delaware, Ohio. Craig loved to go to all of his grandchildren’s school and sporting events.

A celebration of Craig’s life will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at the Sycamore United Methodist Church from 2:00-5:00 P.M.
