Irene Olive Bell, 84, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and quiet strength that will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Born Irene Olive Breyley, she was the daughter of William J. Breyley and Della B. (Allen) Breyley. She grew up in Sycamore, Ohio, and later made her home in Van Wert, Ohio, where she built a life centered around family, faith, and community.
Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lyn Milligan Bell. She is survived by her three children, Faith (Bell) Andrews, Camilla Bell, and Ashton Bell, along with seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all who were the light of her life.
For over 30 years, Irene worked faithfully at Van Wert Federal Savings and Loan, where she was known for her dedication and kindness. Outside of work, her heart belonged to her husband and family as well as her church where she sang in the choir, helped in the nursery, and baked a lot of pies. She also loved spending time with her sorority sisters—women who meant the world to her and with whom she stayed connected throughout her life.
Irene had a gift for making a house feel like home. She taught her children and grandchildren how to bake, and her kitchen was often filled with laughter and the warmth of holiday traditions—especially the cherished Christmas cookie baking that brought generations together. She passed down not only recipes, but also songs—traditional melodies that will continue to live on through her family.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—her family, the sound of a passing train, birds singing nearby, riding bicycles or taking a walk after dinner with her husband, and sitting on the porch swing watching the neighborhood children play. Though small in stature, Irene was feisty and strong, and she carried that spirit with her to the very end.
Above all, Irene was known for her kind heart and gentle nature. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome and loved, and those who met her often felt an instant connection. She was, in every sense, a lovely soul. The love she gave will continue to live on in the family she cherished so deeply.
Visitation will be held at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, 201 Saffel Avenue, Sycamore, OH 44882, on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 11AM-1PM. A memorial service will be held at Walton-Moore Funeral Home at 1PM followed by a short internment service at Pleasant View Cemetery.
