Kristi M Loy-Hetzel

Kristi M. Loy-Hetzel, age 70 of rural Sycamore, died Sunday, March 22,2020 at home.

She was born September 21, 1949 in Tiffin to Clayson and Mary “Irene” (Smith) Loy.

She married Ronald L. Hetzel and they later divorced.

Surviving are a sister, Darlene K. Welshans of Brooklyn Michigan, nieces, Beth (Diana) Carroll, Melanie (Joshua) Hebenstreit, and a nephew Dale (Dana) Welshans Jr. all of Michigan, special friends, Beth and Bret Margraf, and Cheryl and Glenn (Sie) Chaffee, aunts, Mrs. Betty Bowman, Mrs. Madelyn Smith of Tiffin and Mrs. Dona Smith of Fremont, several great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, and beloved son John “Abe” Hetzel who died in 2000.

Kristi was a homemaker and a former employee of ITT in Tiffin and Fillmore Pharmacy in Sycamore. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Tiffin, a 1967 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and Davis Business College in Toledo. She was a former Cub Scout Den Mother, a volunteer with CASA, and a member of Mohawk Young Farm Wives.

Kristi became a loving caregiver and helped raise several neighborhood children. She became an honorary grandmother to Meghan, Bradley, Kael, Aubrey, Chet and Jace.

Kristi was an avid eagle watcher, loved her dogs, and loved pigs, especially pot-bellied pigs.

Kristi loved studying world cultures. She especially cherished her experience as a member of the Carey Shrine Chorale, traveling to the Vatican, and performing for Pope John Paul II in 2003.

Graveside services are being held for Kristi at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Sycamore on Saturday, September 26, at 11:00am with Reverend Clayton Bailey officiating.

The family would like everybody to follow social distancing and wear a mask, if possible, for the graveside service.
