Otto J. Nelson, age 93 of Sycamore, Ohio died at 12:46 A.M., Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky, Ohio. He was born on February 2, 1929 in Wyandot County to Otto Nelson Sr. and Herna (Mutchler) Nelson. He married Patricia L. (Glasener) Nelson on March 17, 1962 and she survives in Sycamore.
Surviving are the following children: Latricia (John) Gaskin, Sarasota, Florida, Connie Leeth, Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Deborah Lauthers, Sycamore, Ohio, Judy (Dean) Keller, rural Sycamore, Ohio and Jeannine (Rick) Leeth, Sycamore, Ohio. Also surviving are eighteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Otto was preceded in death by a son, Gary Lauthers, a son-in-law, Joe Leeth and three brothers, Lloyd, Dwight and Charles Nelson.
Otto was a retired supervisor of shipping at the former American Standard, Tiffin, Ohio for many years. He was a 1947 graduate of Sycamore High School. He was a life member of the Sycamore American Legion Post # 250, Past Commander of the Legion, former chairman of the Sycamore American Legion Ballfield Committee, was a former member of the Veterans Service Commission of Wyandot County, and treasurer of the Legion Canteen for many years. He also was a Life member of the Upper Sandusky Amvets # 777 and a life member of the Tiffin VFW Post. He also was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the Army.
For hobbies, he loved to do jigsaw puzzles, loved to bowl and loved all of Mohawk Sports, attending many events over the years.
Funeral services for Otto will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, Ohio with the Rev. Larry Nunley officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery where the Sycamore American Legion will conduct a military graveside service. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 13, 2022 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
