Rev. Orion Aubihl Obituary

Rev. Orion R. Aubihl, 89, of Sycamore, Ohio, formerly of Canton, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 2, 2025. He was born June 4, 1935, in New Philadelphia, OH, to the late Wesley G. and Florence (Becker) Aubihl.

A 1953 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, Orion was ordained in 1971 following his completion of Cornus Hill Bible College in Akron. His Methodist studies continued at Garrett Evangelical Seminary in Evanston, IL. Over the years, he faithfully served as minister at many northeastern Ohio United Methodist Churches, most notably Asbury United Methodist and Mt. Zion United Methodist in Stark County, Sycamore Church in Wyandot County, and Rootstown Church, where he retired in 2001 after 50 years in ministry. Like many devoted ministers, he never gave up his calling and served as Interim Pastor for numerous churches during his retirement.

Orion was a man of many talents and interests. He received Leadership Awards from the Boy Scouts of America and was honored as Pastor of the Year by the Akron/Canton United Methodist District. He also was a 10 year member of the Lions Club. In addition to his ministry, he coached the Louisville, Ohio, girls' high school softball team, fostering a love for teamwork and sportsmanship. A dedicated sports enthusiast, he loved spectating and supporting his children and grandchildren in their athletic pursuits.

His hobbies reflected his appreciation for nature and creativity. Orion enjoyed fishing and nurturing beautiful roses in his garden. He also had a passion for theater, performing as an actor in Sandy Valley, Upper Sandusky, and Norwalk community theaters, where he brought joy to audiences with his performances.

He is preceded in death by one sister, Helen Menges, and one brother, David Aubihl.

Those left to cherish Orion’s memories are his wife, Penelope "Pene" (Carpenter) Aubihl, to whom he was married 34 years; daughters Tammy (Steve) Walton, Cindy (Michael) Lacqua, and Jenny (Dan) Weinandy; son Dan (Jill) Aubihl; stepdaughter Ronda (Eric) Livesay; stepson Ryan (Marta) Bair; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
