Richard E. Schafer

Richard E. Schafer, age 84 of rural Sycamore, Ohio died at 4:35 P.M., Friday, March 21, 2025 at Vancrest of Upper Sandusky. He was born on May 21, 1940 in Lykens Township, Crawford County, Ohio to Robert and Dorotha (Spayth) Schafer. He married Jealea (Dolch) Schafer on September 20, 1959 and she survives in rural Sycamore. 

Surviving are the following children: Jodi (Tom) Munk, Sandusky, Ohio, Rod (Cathy) Schafer, rural Sycamore, and Craig (Jenny) Schafer, rural Sycamore. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Kayla (Adam) Hamstra, Kory Munk, Kolby Munk, Josh (Toni) Schafer, Christie (Brendon) Reed, Cody Schafer, and Levi (Hannah) Schafer, ten great-grandchildren and one brother, Mike (Karen) Schafer rural Lykens, Ohio. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Steve Schafer.

Richard was a 1958 graduate of Lykens High School. He had worked for 34 years at Timken, Bucyrus, Ohio and also farmed.

He was a member of St. John’s Baseline United Church of Christ. He was a member of the following organizations: Seneca Lodge #790 F & AM Republic, the Shellman Chapter Model A Club, the Crawford County Antique Machinery Association, a former Lykens Volunteer Fireman, a member of the former Lykens Conservation Club, and at one time was on the Wynford School Board.

Funeral services for Richard will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at St. John’s Baseline United Church of Christ with Pastor Mike Ebersole officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Baseline Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 from 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home and also on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. at the church. A Masonic service will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at 7:45 P.M. at the funeral home.
