Wallace “Wally” C. Koehler, age 87, formerly of 503 S. Sycamore Avenue, Sycamore, Ohio died at 1:15 P.M., Friday, December 4, 2020 at Fairhaven Community, Upper Sandusky, Ohio. He was born on August 26, 1933 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio to Elton and Luella (Wyss) Koehler. He married Kathryn Christena “Tena Kay” (Moyer) Koehler on November 30, 1958 and she survives.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda (Rick) Sommerfield, Marysville, Ohio and Sara (Mike) Conner, rural Sycamore, Ohio plus an adopted daughter, June (John) Morter, rural Sycamore, Ohio. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Timothy Allen, Matthew (Tara) Allen, Nathaniel (Lusandra) Allen, Darcianne (Mike) Porter, Erin (Brandon Wallace) Conner, Emily Conner, Jason Morter, Jonathon (Bridgett) Morter and Juston Morter plus seven great-grandchildren and one sister, Elaine (Ed) Henn, Delaware, Ohio. Preceding Wally in death were two brothers, Ronald and Kenneth Koehler.
Wally was first and foremost a farmer and loved his John Deere tractors. He also worked for thirty-three years at the former Swan Rubber, Bucyrus, Ohio. He also was a 1951 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, was a member of the Sycamore United Church of Christ where he served at one time as Sunday School Supt., Youth Leader, Consistory member and was at one time on the church’s Dartball team. He was a former deputy for the Wyandot County Sheriff Auxiliary, member of the Mohawk Historical Society, was a life member of all Mohawk Sports Activities and also was a member of Sycamore American Legion Post # 250. Wally also served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict.
For hobbies, he loved to go snowmobiling, messing with his wind generator, loved polka and square dance music, loved to watch The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Indians, playing cards with friends and spending time with his favorite cat, Boo.
A private family funeral service for Wally will be held at the Sycamore United Church of Christ with Rev. Dr. Matthew Zuehlke officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, west of Sycamore where the Sycamore American Legion will conduct a military graveside service.
