Willis “Willie” H. Burnside, age 83 of 5740 South County Road 19, Tiffin, Ohio died at 8:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at home. He was born on August 9, 1934 in Tiffin, Ohio to Warren and Edith (Helle) Burnside. He married Janice M. (Scott) Burnside and she survives.
Surviving are the following brothers and sisters, Ed Burnside, Sycamore, Ohio, Gerald (Eileen) Burnside, rural Tiffin, Ohio, Preston Burnside, rural Tiffin, Ohio, Virginia (Robert) Sherman, rural Tiffin, Ohio, Carolyn Burnside, rural Tiffin, Ohio and Sharon Burnside, rural Tiffin, Ohio. He was preceded in death by one sister, Annabelle Burnside and one brother, Richard Burnside.
Willie was a retired Oven Tender at the former General Electric Plant in Tiffin, Ohio having worked their for twenty-five years. He then helped Kingland Farms for twenty years and also with his wife they ran J and W Cider Mill for thirty-six years.
He was a 1952 graduate of Melmore High School, was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church where over the years he served on various committees throughout the church with his greatest joy seeing the outside chimes installed which play various times throughout the day and night. He was very active in playing in dartball leagues in Seneca and Wyandot Counties, pitched horseshoes in Sycamore with the Sycamore Horseshoe Club, loved to bowl in leagues in Sycamore and Tiffin, he also played softball, also coached softball and basketball through the Youth for Christ Program, was a member of the Quarter Century Club at G.E., member of the G.E. Retirees Tuesday Lunch Bunch, loved to watch Ohio State Sports, Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Cavaliers plus watch his nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews play in sporting events. Willis also served his country in the Army from 1961-1962.
Funeral services for Willie will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Harmony United Methodist Church with the Rev. Matt Garrabrant officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery, Seneca County where the Sycamore American Legion Post # 250 will conduct a military graveside service. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, Ohio and also on Saturday from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at the church prior to the funeral service.
